Over the last couple of weeks, we have built our case that the world of business and ballroom dancing are fantastic metaphors for each other.
Learnings from one can help to reflect on and enhance performance in the other.
The last post finished on the thought that, once awarded, it is tough to steal either business or a champion title away from the competition triggering Paola to start a discussion around selection criteria in sales pitches.
It reminded me of something that the late Ernie Chatt, one of Dan’s and my early teachers, said, which encouraged us to approach practice and competitions in a more strategic way.
Ernie was an international judge and one of the few dancers who won Olympic Gold and Silver when dancing was introduced as a test sport in 1968.
Ernie, one of those great coaches with the ability to put a picture in your head that propelled you to action and stayed with you, said: “If there are only jam butties on the floor, I mark my jam butty. But when a cream tart comes along, I have to mark the cream tart.”
What is your favourite quote by your mentor or manager that made you think differently?
