I started my professional career as an Internal Consultant with NatWest Consultancy in the same week a hostile takeover bid was launched by Royal Bank of Scotland. I found myself thrust into a period of momentous change and since that time how to adapt to and benefit from change has been a constant theme in my own development journey. Watching many of my colleagues struggle with change or thrive on pressure, experiencing how individuals and organisations plan for and adjust to the challenges of the modern commercial environment made a huge impact upon me and were the direct cause of the direction my career took from that time on.
During the course of my career, in business roles as diverse as Goldman Sachs and TNT, I have held a variety of leadership positions covering the entire spectrum of HR accountability. Gaining an appreciation of what ‘good’ looks like from blue-chip employers including Dixons (DSGi), Tchibo, The Brambles Group and Hilton Worldwide. I am able to draw on my commercial experience across these varied industries and I am familiar with public, private, start-up and partnership environments. I am also a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and Fellow of the IoD. Within all my roles I had a strong reputation for leading high performing teams, which I achieved through focusing on the personal development of every individual to aim for the highest commercial standards and create collaborative ties within the team. I am equally excited by the challenges of ‘The Doing’ as I am about those of ‘Coaching’ and continue to take accountability for decision making in my capacity as Non-Executive Director in addition to running my own business.
Always looking for a breadth of experience and varied challenges, my life has been an eventful one, which has fed into my appreciation of the power of dealing positively with change and building resilience. I grew up in Germany and after completing my studies in international business and languages there moved to England, where I earned an MBA and Ph.D. from Manchester Business School, which was sponsored by TNT Express. During my academic and working life, I have lived in places as diverse as France, Mexico, the US, and Colombia.
In a number of my corporate roles, I have drawn on the work conducted by Lane4 http://www.lane4performance.com who are helping organisations to achieve competitive advantage combining research findings from high-performance environments in industry and sport. It was, therefore, an easy choice to obtain my professional coaching qualification through the University of Middlesex accredited Lane4 Programme who I consider thought leaders in this field. Having further developed and fine-tuned my approach as practitioner, I now partner with individuals and teams to deliver sustainable performance and personal change.
Like many professionals, I focused on building my career in my 20’s and 30’s but shifted some of my passion for learning (and challenging myself) to ballroom dancing. Already a ‘Senior’ (a devastating term!) I have been successfully competing in the Over 35s Category, winning ten British Championship and two British Open titles during this time. I use my insights into the colourful world of ballroom dancing to bring a fresh and fun way of looking at driving personal and organisational performance.
